The makers of Refreshers and Parma Violets Swizzels has agreed to rebrand its candy after it was claimed by Marks & Spencer’s that its brand Percy Pig was being infringed. According to M&S, it and Swizzels have reached a “amicable resolution”.
The Percy Pig brand has earned a £131.7 million turnover since its start in 1993, according to a 37-page dossier submitted to the high court of London in November 2022 with 271 bags sold per minute.
Its huge, people love the brand so much that people have had tattoos done of the said Percy Pig. Personally I think people should get out more.
A spokesperson for M&S stated:-
” “M&S has a proud history as a leading innovator and for almost 140 years customers have turned to M&S for unique, original, quality products – conceived, created and developed alongside trusted suppliers and produced to the highest standards. M&S has made a significant investment in building a strong Percy Pig brand over the past 30 years and believe it is important to protect the registered trademarks relating to Percy Pig’s appearance.”
This victory for M & S comes on the back of the famous victory where it sued Aldi for copying Colin the Caterpillar.
