Robbie Williams’ business ventures are put on hold after all three of his trade mark applications are opposed.

The Take That member has had to put his business plans on hold after all three of his UK trade mark applications were opposed. Williams made three word mark applications: 1) ‘Rude Pump’, 2) ‘Rude Rise’ and 3) ‘Rude Snore’.

All three marks were applied for under the same six classes, with goods ranging from ‘dietary supplements’ and ‘articles of clothing’ to ‘coffees’, ‘energy drinks’ and ‘alcoholic wines’ etc.

The ‘Rude Rise’ and the ‘Rude Snore’ marks were opposed by Rude Health Foods Limited, a company which produces milk-alternative drinks, granolas, vitamins and more.

The oppositions do not necessarily mean that it’s the end of the road for these trade mark applications, however, in defending them, Williams and will incur a high amount of fees. It will also take time, therefore putting his business plans on hold, and it is not guaranteed that all marks will be defended successfully.

This is not the first opposition faced by the Angels singer. Back in April 2022, Robbie applied to register the word mark ‘HOPEIUM’, which faced an opposition by Yves Saint Laurent Parfums, who hold various registered UK trade marks in relation to their fragrance ‘Opium’.

The above certainly demonstrates the necessity of a pre-filing trade mark search. Upon searching the word ‘Rude’ in the UKIPO database, Rude Health Foods’ trade marks formed part of the results. Our pre-filing search also covers unregistered rights, as not all risk lies with earlier registered trade marks.
